My PhD thesis, titled Colonising Bodies in the Postcolony: Representing Race, Gender and Sexuality in Postapartheid South Africa, argues that colonial stereotypes of the black female body still haunt contemporary nationalist representations. In my thesis, I offer a feminist critique of contemporary South African nationalist discourses and argue against an ongoing appropriation of gendered, racialised and sexualised identifications that serve the interests of ruling patriarchy.

My main research interests include South African literature, postcolonial feminism, gender and sexuality studies and embodiment theory.
