Brittani Nivens

Brittani Nivens is a first year Ph.D. student. She received her Bachelors degree with honors in English Literature from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and completed a Masters in Literature and Modernity at UCT with distinction for her thesis entitled “Colorism and Class in the Jamaican Literary Imagination.” She is a recipient of the JW Jagger Centenary Gift scholarship. Her research interests include colorism and the practice of skin bleaching, Caribbean identity formation and post-independence African and Afro-Caribbean culture and literature.
